Blind Ambition Forum: Building Community and Employment Opportunities for Blind and Partially Sighted People

Square promotional image for the Blind Ambition Forum showing two blind people joining an online Zoom audio meeting using their smartphones. On the left, a blind man wearing sunglasses holds a white cane while listening through headphones. On the right, a blind woman wearing a headset sits beside her guide dog while using her phone. In the centre, a smartphone screen shows a Zoom audio group call with multiple participants, including names such as Matthew, Sarah and Seema, with audio sound wave icons indicating people speaking. The Blind Ambition logo appears in the corner, representing an inclusive community forum for blind and partially sighted people.

At Blind Ambition Recruitment, we believe that employment opportunities grow when communities share knowledge, confidence and support. That is why we are pleased to announce that our Working Age Forum (WAF) has now been renamed the Blind Ambition Forum (BAF).

The new name reflects the evolution of the forum into something broader and more inclusive. While the original forum focused primarily on working-age discussions, the Blind Ambition Forum now welcomes anyone who is blind or partially sighted and interested in connecting with others around employment, independence, and accessibility.

Whether you are looking for work, developing your career, running a business, or sharing your experience with others, the forum provides a supportive space to exchange ideas and learn from peers.

Why the Forum Name Has Changed

When the forum first began, it was designed to support people navigating employment and career development while living with sight loss.

Over time, however, the conversations expanded well beyond employment alone. Participants began discussing topics such as:

  • workplace accessibility and assistive technology

  • career development and networking

  • Access to Work support and managing support workers

  • everyday independence and accessibility

  • navigating the cost of living with sight loss

The forum became a community space where blind and partially sighted people could support one another and share valuable experiences.

Renaming the forum to the Blind Ambition Forum better reflects its role as a community hub for knowledge, employment insight, and mutual support.

A Community That Supports Employment

One of the key benefits of the Blind Ambition Forum is the opportunity for members to discuss employment experiences and learn from others navigating the workplace with sight loss.

Members regularly share insights about:

  • applying for jobs as a blind or partially sighted candidate

  • accessible recruitment processes

  • workplace adjustments and assistive technology

  • building confidence during interviews

  • developing professional networks

These discussions often provide practical advice that can help people move closer to meaningful employment.

As Seema Flower, founder of Blind Ambition, explains:

“When blind and partially sighted people share their experiences and knowledge, barriers to employment become easier to overcome.”

Connecting the Community With Employers

The Blind Ambition Recruitment website was created to help connect inclusive employers with talented blind and partially sighted job seekers.

Many of the conversations taking place within the Blind Ambition Forum highlight the importance of accessible recruitment practices and employers who are willing to embrace inclusive workplaces.

By bringing together:

  • a community forum for peer support

  • an accessible recruitment platform for job opportunities

  • disability awareness training for employers

Blind Ambition aims to tackle one of the most pressing challenges facing the visually impaired community: the high unemployment rate among blind and partially sighted people in the UK.

Join the Blind Ambition Forum

The Blind Ambition Forum takes place on the second Tuesday of every month via Zoom.

The sessions are informal and interactive, allowing participants to discuss topics ranging from employment and technology to everyday independence.

Anyone who is blind or partially sighted and interested in connecting with others is welcome to attend.

The forum is particularly valuable for:

  • job seekers exploring new career opportunities

  • blind and partially sighted professionals sharing experience

  • entrepreneurs and business owners

  • students and early-career professionals

  • people who want to support others by sharing knowledge
