Today, in the historic heart of the City of London, Seema Flower—founder of Blind Ambition and a trailblazing advocate for disability inclusion—delivered an unforgettable talk to students from the Merchant Taylors’ Schools.
Her message was powerful and clear: failure is not an option, and dreams, no matter how impossible they may seem, are there to be realised.
Belonging Starts Within
Drawing on her own lived experience as a blind entrepreneur, Seema shared a deeply personal story of resilience, purpose and transformation. Her presentation explored the human need to belong—how societal norms, cultural expectations and emotional safety shape our sense of self.
But she reminded the students:
“Not all spaces are meant for you. Belonging starts within. You can create your own new spaces.”
In a world that doesn’t always accommodate difference, Seema encouraged students to own their identity and lead with authenticity.
Advocacy, Resilience, and the Power of Voice
Seema also delivered a stirring call to action on the importance of advocacy:
“Everyone deserves to be seen, heard, and treated fairly. Silence protects systems, not people.”
She urged the young audience to stand up not only for themselves, but for others who might be marginalised or unseen. Speaking out is not only an act of courage—it’s a vital step in building a more compassionate and inclusive society.
Education and the Impossible
Education, Seema said, is the great leveller:
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” – Nelson Mandela
She encouraged the students to dream big and push boundaries. Whether facing disability, adversity or doubt, it is possible to achieve greatness with hard work, perseverance and self-belief.
“When you stop seeing barriers as blocks and start seeing them as steps, that’s when the impossible becomes possible.” – Seema Flower
About Blind Ambition
Seema also introduced the students to the work of her award-winning consultancy, Blind Ambition, which helps organisations become more inclusive and enables blind and partially sighted people to succeed in work and life. Through training, advocacy, and employment initiatives, her team opens doors and changes mindsets—ensuring that no one is left behind.
As one of the UK’s most respected disability inclusion advocates, Seema left every student today with a lasting gift: the belief that they, too, can change the world.
